Learn how flex farms, a community-centered hydroponic growing system, is helping students in some New Hampshire schools learn how to grow their own food. Sam Malesa of Fork Farms, the producer of flex farms growing systems, was joined by a New Hampshire school teacher to share about their work and the role this technology can play in food production and farm to school education in your district.

NH Farm to School hosted an informational webinar for schools interested in applying to participate in the new Local Food for Local Schools Purchasing Incentive Pilot program. Schools selected for the pilot program will purchase New Hampshire grown and produced foods with federal meal funds and be reimbursed $1 for every $3 spent by the state. The pilot program, being managed by the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food, is currently accepting applications. Watch this webinar to learn more about the program and how to apply!

Join the School Garden Support Organization Network for a workshop session to build a case for the importance of teaching water conservation through school gardens. As temperatures climb and both surface and groundwater supplies diminish, many communities are having to rethink their agricultural practices and consider the vulnerability of their food systems.

Paul Karpawich, Program Director for Uplift NH, hosted a presentation and discussion about driving environmental education and problem-based learning in school curriculum across New Hampshire. Paul shared his organization’s success in working with schools and students to launch and sustain food waste diversion and composting projects and offered networking space to replicate similar projects in your own school.

Olivia Clark from Cornucopia Project and Sam Bator from Stonewall Farm teamed up to share ways to engage students in gardening during the colder months. They provided learnings about winter crop storage and preparation for the spring growing season.

Learn about the work ReTreeUS does, planting orchards in schools from Program Manager and Founder, Richard Hodges. Discussion will cover details from planning to planting, from maintenance to harvest, and utilizing orchards as outdoor classrooms. Over the last 12 years, ReTreeUS has planted more than 100 school and community orchards in New England. Best practices have evolved over that time and ReTreeUS is here to support more fruitful educational experiences.
